Fort Lauderdale, FL, USA, September 25, 2012 -- Following six weeks of intensive operations in often challenging conditions, RESOLVE Salvage & Fire announced the removal of the first 600 tons of steel from the bow section of the Rena wreck off Tauranga, New Zealand. RESOLVE has been removing the wreck piece by piece using helicopters and a transport barge at a safe distance from the reef. Due to the precarious position of the wreck’s bow on the Astrolabe Reef, and the nationwide concern in New Zealand over the potential for additional damage to the reef during salvage operations, RESOLVE’s methodology using helicopters was chosen from a number of other proposals.
RESOLVE’s Rena Salvage Master Frank Leckey said, “We now have our team of divers from the U.S. and our RMG 280 crane barge from Singapore for the underwater phase of wreck removal, now that the seas are expected to be calmer with the seasonal change. The crane barge can access the bow from deep water, far enough away to avoid the reef but close enough to lift the cut sections from the wreck onto a barge. The crane can remove much larger pieces than the helicopters, –up to 30 tons -- so we have helicopter, crane and underwater dive operations all underway simultaneously.”
Strong winds and high seas up to six meters had interrupted the salvage operation on more than one occasion. According to Leckey, when seas are three meters or higher, the salvors must suspend operations to ensure the safety of the team. Leckey said, “The wreck lies at a 34-degree angle. Combine that with significant movement when the wind or seas pick up and you have a dangerous situation. We have a full time health and safety officer monitoring all aspects of the operation.”
Resolve hopes to be able to reduce the wreck to a point where it is no longer visible on the water, by early 2013.

Fort Lauderdale, FL, USA, JUNE 27, 2012 -- Resolve Maritime Academy (Academy) has announced that Dave Boldt has joined the company as Manager of the Simulation Group. In this capacity, Boldt is responsible for the overall day-to-day operation of the Academy's Simulation Training Center. Boldt joins Resolve from Royal Caribbean Cruise Line (RCCL) where he was Superintendent for Navigation Safety with responsibilities that included accident investigation for the company's 35 ships, chairing RCCL's Navigation Working Group, and writing, vetting, and implementing new and existing Navigation policies. For the past year, he served on the RCCL committee that worked with the Academy in the development of its state- of- the- art Simulation Training Center.
Boldt's marine industry career spans more than 20 years and includes experience with cruise ships, the Canadian Coast Guard, high speed ferries, salvage, towing, yacht delivery and tall ships. He was formerly a marine fire fighting instructor at the Justice Institute of British Columbia. Boldt has been instrumental in the ongoing effort to adapt Flight Operational Quality Assurance (FOQA) to a maritime equivalent program, Bridge Operational Quality Assurance (BOQA).The Academy opened its 7000-square-foot Simulation Training Center adjacent to Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in March 2012, to provide leading edge, simulation-based training programs for cruise line and commercial shipping personnel and other maritime professionals worldwide. The Center features a Class A Full Mission Bridge Simulator with fully functional attached bridge wing with independent visual system, an Electronic Chart Display; Information System (ECDIS) Classroom and a suite of fully equipped "mini" bridges. The unique curriculum utilizes state-of-the-art simulation technology and includes: Ship Handling; Bridge Resource Management (BRM); Operational Use of ECDIS; and RADAR/Automatic Radar Planning Aids (ARPA) programs. The Thailand-flagged freighter ran hard aground in strong winds early this year, seven miles from the Penghu archipelago 30 miles northwest of Kaohsiung, Taiwan. The 2695-ton vessel sustained extensive hull damage and has since posed a threat of explosion and severe environmental damage to the ecosystem and reefs as well as local populations and fishing villages on the islands surrounding the wreck site. The casualty had been leaking LPG since the grounding, further increasing the risk of explosion. RESOLVE was one of the only international salvage companies to propose a technically feasible and safe salvage plan. The company's plan to remove the gas and then dismantle the freighter and remove the wreckage from the stranding site was approved by the Taiwanese government in April. Due to the severe hull damage, refloating and towing the vessel was determined to be impossible.
RESOLVE completed the lightering of LPG to the daughter vessel LPG Ladyship and proceeded to use an inert gas to displace and purge all LPG inside the tanks making the vessel safe to commence the cutting operations. Project Manager Captain Ajay Prasad said, "The cargo removal operation was extremely intensive with the team having to expend almost all back-up plans and contingencies, going into unconventional gassing up, pressure differential discharge, cascade "inerting", gas-freeing, and piloting the receiving LPG tanker into the 4-point mooring to successfully complete the discharge operation. The extreme weather of the Taiwan Strait further multiplied the challenges of the job." The Maritime and Port Bureau, MOTC R.O.C. Kaohsiung, Penghu County Coastguard, EPA, local village councils and government officials have anticipated the removal of the volatile gas cargo from the tanker since its grounding almost six months ago. Maritime & Port Bureau Deputy Director Mr. Yeh, Ming-Shui said, "We are very pleased with the safe and successful completion of the cargo removal operation -- which was very hazardous -- 2 days ahead of schedule. We would like to thank Capt. Ajay Prasad and the whole RESOLVE team for this excellent operation. We achieved this result after a series of 12 meetings with all concerned parties. Penghu County Government Magistrate Mr.Wang, Chien-Fa said, "We are very happy that the cargo removal operation has been completed and the vessel and surrounding area are now safe, just in time for the start of the fishing season on 1 June. Resolve Salvage has done a very efficient and successful operation.
The wreck removal phase is now underway with completion anticipated within 6 to 8 weeks.

The American Phoenix, a 616' x 105' chemical tanker was built by BAE Systems Southeast Shipyards, Alabama for owner Mid-Ocean Tanker Company LLC of South Norwalk, CT. RESOLVE provided construction support for the owner during final outfitting and completion of the American Phoenix 49,000 DWT Tanker which is the largest vessel ever built in Alabama.
The RMG-1000 barge is an ABS class deck barge built for parent company RESOLVE Marine Group, Inc. to support a +1000-ton heavy lift crane. RESOLVE's Project Engineer Sam Charters said, "This is a versatile 300' x 100' sea-going barge designed specifically for marine salvage, wreck removal and heavy lift operations in the Gulf of Mexico and U.S. waters. With a deck strength of 3500 psf, it is ideal for the larger, heavy lift jobs; it is available for charter for assignments in the Gulf initially while the heavy lift crane is in construction. RESOLVE's nine-acre Theodore (Mobile ), AL port facility is home port for the RMG-1000.

Shanghai, China, June 12, 2012 - Shanghai Resolve-Shengmin OSRO Company, Ltd. (SRSOC), a leading Level 1 Ship Pollution Response Organization (SPRO), has introduced its wide network of Ship Pollution Response Organization (SPRO) partners throughout China. Known as "One Call", the consortium can now arrange China Maritime Safety Administration (MSA) certified Level 1 SPRO coverage for ships calling in any coastal port in the People's Republic of China (PRC).
Since January 2012, SRSOC has offered statutorily required ship pollution response readiness in Shanghai and most China ports. WHO: RESOLVE Maritime Academy hosts the Damage Control Olympics as an annual event for officers and damage control crew of US Navy and US Coast Guard vessels visiting Port Everglades during Fleet Week 2012. Academy instructors and personnel will lead the day of shipboard firefighting and damage control competitions.
WHAT: The sailors and damage control service men and women attending the full-day of maritime safety training exercises and competitive activities will form teams from each of the participating ships. Teams will compete against each other in a series of practical, hands-on training exercises and shipboard emergency response scenarios, including interaction with live fire, smoke filled environments and a flooded ship chamber. Now in its 12th year, the Damage Control Olympics was developed by RESOLVE Maritime Academy to recreate real- life emergencies that a sailor could experience onboard a vessel at sea and gain valuable experience in a fast-paced, competitive environment. As in actual shipboard life, teams may be penalized for safety violations during the exercises. An Awards Ceremony will complete the day’s activities.
Sailors enjoy the competitive activities as well as fun, camaraderie and relaxation with other service men and women. Entertainment includes the live band “Riverdown”. Breakfast and lunch buffets, refreshments, massage stations, and a visit from the Red Bull Girls. A schedule of the competitive events follows.

Schedule of Events
EVENT 1: P-100 Fire Fighting Drill
Each team of five will rig a P-100 pump, don complete firefighting equipment/ ensemble and discharge water via two 1 ½ fire hoses to attack a live fire and extinguish it in the fastest time possible. This is a timed event, and each team’s time will stop when they are effectively applying water to the fire.
EVENT 2: Dress-Out Drill / SCBA Relay Race
Each competing ship will have two teams + 50’ apart. They will be required to assemble 1 self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA), don the SCBA and face piece, run to their second team and remove SCBA. Next member will don the SCBA, run back to starting point and remove SCBA. On their second run, the team member will be required to change out SCBA cylinder, don SCBA and run to next team member, then remove SCBA. Last team member will then don SCBA and run back to start / finish point. This will be a timed event. Time will be added for incomplete or improper dress-out at 10 seconds per violation. Time will stop when the final team member crosses the line for the second time.
EVENT 3: Pipe Patch Drill
This is a combination timed and leakage rate evolution event. Working against time in a rapidly filling vessel chamber, each team will be required to isolate water flow through a broken piping system. They will have 30 minutes to complete a soft patch on pipe rupture. At the 30 minute mark, the isolation valves will be opened and Resolve personnel will determine the winner by the leakage rate. No Emergency Water Activated Repair Patch (EWARP) Kits Permitted.
EVENT 4: Timed Portside Interior Fire Attack
This event will require all (up to 10) team members to participate. All will assemble on the main deck, dress out in firefighting equipment/ ensembles including helmets, gloves, boots, flash hoods, coveralls, S.C.B.A. etc. and then rig hose, enter into the vessel and advance the hose to the top of the ladder. After lowering the hose down, the fire team will proceed down the ladder. A second hose must be laid out and charged. The team then enters the engine room and proceeds to the crew lounge and then attacks the fire. The team must then exit safely and will be timed on the complete exercise.
EVENT 5: Search & Rescue Drill
Team members will dress out in full gear and SCBA, enter the officers quarters area and perform a search for a victim in a smoke-filled, zero visibility compartment. Once found, the first team will evacuate and the second team will perform a rescue and removal of victim/s to a safe area. Resolve personnel will observe teams for safe practices, proper search patterns and safe movement in a zero visibility compartment.
Special Note to Media: Members of the media are invited to attend. Service personnel participants will be available for interview, and there will be numerous opportunities to photograph and tape activities including live burn firefighting and shipboard flood control exercises. This event is not open to the public.

The Academy designed and developed the $6.5 million Simulation Training Center which features a Class A Full Mission Bridge Simulator with fully functional attached Bridge Wing with independent visual system, Electronic Chart Display & Information System (ECDIS) Classroom and Navigation Lab with a suite of advanced “mini” bridges. Jeff focuses on continuous development of RESOLVE's U.S. and territorial waters Firefighting Response Network and serves as the company's Pacific Region Responder for marine incidents, while promoting Resolve Maritime Academy training programs.
Johnson previously served the Vancouver Fire Department (VFD) for 32 years and, as Coordinator for its marine program, he supervised department training and personnel. He chaired the Fire Protection Agency Advisory Council (F-PAAC) for the Maritime Fire and Safety Association (MFSA), a private/public partnership designed to enhance emergency response to maritime incidents along the lower Columbia River. In addition, he chaired the Technical Advisory Group with responsibility for developing the Washington State Standard for Marine Firefighting for Land-Based Firefighters. As a member of the International Fire Service Training Association (IFSTA ) Marine Committee, he had involvement in writing the IFSTA manual, Marine Firefighting for Land-Based Firefighters. Johnson is a member of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) committee responsible for the development of NFPA 1005, a standard on the subject of fire protection. He has delivered training locally, nationally, and internationally and representing the United States in Turkmenistan where he provided training for their government.

Fort Lauderdale, FL, November 17, 2011 - RESOLVE Marine Group, Inc. successfully refloated the Perseverance dry dock in San Juan, Puerto Rico on October 27. The dry dock sank on September 29 during maintenance/refit operations. During the sinking, the dry dock's internal pumping system became inoperable due to flooding of the dock's control station. Also, internal damage sustained during the sinking event made several of the internal compartments common, degrading the stability of the dry dock.
RESOLVE was engaged to assess the casualty, and plan and execute the refloating operation. First, 12 electric submersible pumps were installed to replace the dry dock's inoperable pumps. RESOLVE then utilized the RMG 400 sheer leg heavy lift crane barge to maintain longitudinal stability of the structure during the 8-day refloat operation. RESOLVE had deployed the AHTS RESOLVE Pioneer, the Tug Lana Rose and RMG 400 heavy lift crane barge to the Perseverance refloat operation after completing the refloating and scuttling of the Angeln container vessel wreck off the coast of St. Lucia.

Fort Lauderdale, FL, USA, October 11, 2011 -- Following an agreement between St.Lucia Air & Seaports Authority and RESOLVE Salvage & Fire (Americas), Inc., RESOLVE refloated the sunken container vessel ANGELN on September 14 and then scuttled the vessel at a deep water reefing site. The 435 ft loaded container ship sank in January 2010 at a depth of 110 feet in the shipping lane three miles outside Vieux Fort, St. Lucia. The wreck sank on its starboard side and spilled its topside load of containers adjacent the wreck. RESOLVE mobilized a team of salvage professionals and owned equipment including the salvage vessel RESOLVE PIONEER, the tugs RESOLVE SUHAILI and LANA ROSE, and the crane barge RMG 400.
The complex operation required clearing the debris field surrounding the wreck including lifting clear the deck house to enable the vessel to be parbuckled upside down. Air fittings and air lines were established to all intact compartments and a refined engineering plan was followed to press air to the ship to complete the initial roll upside down. The hull was then systematically raised to the surface by further blowing of air into tanks and other compartments.
Following refloating, the vessel was stabilized and then towed and scuttled in deeper water. Throughout the operation, RESOLVE monitored the wreck site for oil leakage and also removed and recovered containers containing oil. The environmental conditions at the wreck site posed significant challenges for the salvage team. Very strong ocean currents over three knots were common, as were ocean swells, tropical weather and multiple tropical storms that impacted the project site.
RESOLVE Salvage Master Todd Schauer said, "Raising a 4000-ton ship from 110 feet of water in difficult offshore conditions was an extraordinary challenge. It was a privilege to work with a world class salvage team that delivered success on this project."

Fort Lauderdale, FL, USA , JULY 26, 2011 - Following an agreement between the Government of India and the Government of Sri Lanka, RESOLVE Salvage and Fire (Asia) Pte Ltd.(RESOLVE), a subsidiary of U.S. - based RESOLVE Marine Group, Inc., has commenced the removal of six vessel wrecks that were sunk in Kankesanthurai Harbour (KKS) between 1994 and 1996 during the LTTE conflict. Situated on the northern coast of Sri Lanka, the Harbour was badly damaged in the conflict and has since been closed for commercial activity. The Government of India (GOI) has taken responsibility for rehabilitation of the KKS Harbour.RESOLVE, a global marine salvage and emergency response company, was awarded the contract for the wreck removal work by Shipping Corporation of India, the administrator of the project on behalf of the GOI. The six wrecks range in size from 17m to 99.5m and are either fully or partially submerged, obstructing safe access to, and transit within the harbor. The operation will require not only the removal of wrecks but use of state-of-the-art, 3-D image scanning equipment which will identify all obstructions within a 500-meter radius of each wreck, thus ensuring removal of wreck debris and allowing for safe transit. Two wrecks are outside the Harbour, four are within the Harbour.
RESOLVE has mobilized a team of expert personnel and equipment to cut up the vessels and move the wreckage ashore, where the scrap will be disposed of, clearing the Harbour in preparation for dredging operations and further rehabilitation. At a ceremony marking the commencement of the job at Kankesanthurai Harbour on July 26th, RESOLVE Marine Group President Joseph E. RESOLVE Emergency Response Teams Assists Two Chemical/Product Tankers in Galveston

Resolve Salvage & Fire (Americas), Inc., a subsidiary of Resolve Marine Group, responded to two OPA-90 client tankers offshore and in the Houston-Galveston Ship Channel in July. RESOLVE had responded to another tanker incident in January 2010, off Port Arthur, Texas.
On July 14, 2010, Resolve successfully refloated a 22,377dwt chemical tanker, which had grounded in Galveston Bay, Texas as it lost steerage while leaving the port. The vessel was laden with approximately 15,000 metric tons of cargo including Cyclohexane and Benzene. RESOLVE, the named salvage and marine firefighting provider in the ship's Vessels Response Plan, promptly mobilized a salvage master and naval architect. RESOLVE's onshore management team worked closely with United States Coast Guard Unified Command to ensure a smooth operation and coordination with local authorities. The RESOLVE salvage master Francis Leckey, directed the internal cargo transfers and de-ballasting, enabling the ship to re-float with the assistance of four local tugs providing 275 tons bollard pull.
On July 29, RESOLVE responded to a 44,999dwt fully laden product tanker that was taking on water in her engine room, at the southern Galveston Anchorage. The vessel's master called upon RESOLVE for assistance. A salvage master, dive team and pump technician were mobilized along with a dive spread and dewatering equipment from RESOLVE's Houston-based resources. The water ingress was secured, repairs effected and the vessel continued on its voyage.

Resolve Maritime Academy, the maritime training subsidiary of RESOLVE Marine Group, will host the 10th annual Damage Control Olympics at Port Everglades on April 26, 2011 from 9:00am to 4:00pm.
WHO: RESOLVE Maritime Academy instructors and personnel will host officers, sailors and damage control men and women of the Navy and Coast Guard vessels visiting Port Everglades during Fleet Week 2011.
WHAT: The full-day Damage Control Olympics program of maritime safety training exercises and competitive activities will be attended by teams of service men and women from each of the participating ships. The teams will compete against each other in a series of practical, hands-on training exercises and shipboard emergency response scenarios, including interaction with live fire, and smoke- filled environments. The exercises were developed by RESOLVE Maritime Academy to enact real life emergencies that a sailor may face onboard a vessel at sea. As in real shipboard life, teams may be penalized for safety violations!
Sailors will enjoy the challenging, competitive activities as well as fun and relaxation with other service men and women. The live band “Riverdown” will entertain, and breakfast and lunch buffets, refreshments, massage stations, and a visit from the Red Bull Girls are also planned .

Damage Control Olympics Program
EVENT 1: P-100 Fire Fighting Drill
Each team will consist of 1 pump operator (with hearing protection) and 5 hose personnel (2 on each hose and one team leader). The team will be required to rig a P-100 pump, don complete fire fighting ensemble and discharge water via two (2) 1 ½ fire hoses to attack a live fire. This will be a timed event. Time will stop when team is effectively applying fire fighting water to the fire.
Once the pump is running and water has been “test discharged” from the nozzle, there will be a safety pause (Stop watch will stop) for Staff to ensure all team members are prepared to approach the fire. The safety pause will be no longer than 10 seconds. Teams requiring more than 10 seconds to be ready will be penalized the extra time.
The team will approach the fire and sweep it out. Fire will go out when Lead Instructor has determined fire-fighting effort is successful, and time will stop.
EVENT 2: Dress-Out Drill / SCBA Relay Race
Each team will consist of 4 personnel; two (2) personnel will dress out in complete fire fighting gear. The other two will assist in the dress out. The two teams will be approximately 50 feet apart. They then will be required to assemble 1 SCBA, don the SCBA and face piece, run / jog to next team member who will be approximately 50 feet away, and remove SCBA. Next member will don the SCBA, run back to starting point and remove SCBA. On their second run, the team member will be required to change out SCBA cylinder, don SCBA and run to next team member, then remove SCBA. Last team member will then don SCBA and run back to start / finish point. This will be a timed event. Staff will not allow team members to advance to next point if SCBA is not donned properly.
Time will be added for incomplete or improper dress out at 10 seconds per violation. Time will stop when the final team member crosses the line for the second time.
EVENT 3: Pipe Patch Drill
This event will be a combination timed and leakage rate evolution. Teams will consist of 2 personnel and
will be required to isolate water flow through a piping system. They then will have 30 minutes to complete a soft patch on the pipe rupture (1). At the 30 minute mark, the isolation valves will be opened and Staff will determine the winner by the leakage rate. NO EWARP Kits
Bonus points will be awarded for completing this drill in less than 30 minutes: ½ point for each 5 minutes early.

This event will require all team members (no more than 10) to participate. Team members will assemble on main deck, the event will start, and all team members will dress out in fire fighting ensembles, S.C.B.A., etc. Hose will be rigged and entry made into the structure, then hose will be advanced to the top of the post office ladder. Hoses will be lowered down and the fire team will proceed down the ladder. A second hose will be laid out and charged, but does not have to be used. The team then makes entry into the engine room, then to the crew lounge and attacks the fire. Staff will observe hose movement and fire attack. Once fire is determined to be extinguished by Staff, the fire team backs out of crew lounge, exits via the Post Office ladder, and backs hoses out to the main deck. This event will be a timed evolution, with Staff observing for safe practices

This event will require 4 team members (2 teams of 2). Team members will dress out in full gear and S.C.B.A., enter the Officers Quarters area and perform a search for a victim. Once found, the first team evacuates and the second team enters and performs a rescue and removal of victim/s to a safe area. Staff will observe teams for safe practices, proper search patterns, and safe movement in a zero visibility compartment. Teams will be judged on proper search patterns, proper team movement, and proper movement of victims. This will be a timed event and speed is of vital importance.
Tie Breaker
In the event of a tie between two vessels, the winner will be declared by the following timed event:
A 4-member team will close the OS&Y valve to the fire main system, rig a wye gate, 50 feet of 1-1/2 hose, inline educator, another 50 feet of 1-1/2 hose and then a nozzle. Water supply will then be opened and team will establish foam flow. Time will stop when a blanket of foam is established over the fire area.

Fort Lauderdale, FL, March 16, 2011 -- RESOLVE Marine Group has successfully raised and refloated the “Machinist” drydock at Guam Shipyard in Apra Harbor, Guam. The 825 ft drydock sank on January 2, 2011 during a rough weather event. RESOLVE, a marine salvage and emergency response company with extensive worldwide experience -- including prior experience raising drydocks,-- was the successful bidder for the job. RESOLVE began the salvage job on January 31 and successfully refloated the drydock on March 3.
RESOLVE’s Salvage Master, Salvage Engineer, and salvage divers first conducted a comprehensive casualty assessment to determine the structural and watertight conditions of the drydock and to ascertain the status of drydock systems. A detailed engineering analysis was undertaken and a Salvage Plan was developed and implemented, involving extensive preparatory work both topside and underwater. Given the deep submergence of the drydock well beyond normal operating limits, great care was taken to minimize hydrostatic pressures on tank boundaries during the refloating, and to keep global hull stresses and stability within allowable limits. The U.S. Coast Guard and U.S. Navy reviewed and approved the complex salvage plan.
Due to the extensive maintenance being performed on the drydock prior to sinking, a large portion of its pumping system was inoperable. To overcome this challenge, RESOLVE mobilized 12 high-capacity electric salvage pumps. Additionally, numerous gauging systems were established to monitor tank pressures and condition throughout the refloat operation. “Large sunken drydocks are notorious for testing your skill and tenacity, and this was no exception,” said RESOLVE Salvage Master Todd Schauer. “We were fortunate to have the support of an outstanding team including our client Guam Shipyard, as well as Heger Drydock and Mako Diving.”

The Port Everglades and Fort Lauderdale, Florida-based Resolve Maritime Academy is RESOLVE’s maritime training division, specializing in shipboard fire, safety and hazardous materials response training. Tankers and Ports to Benefit from Increased Capacity
Fort Lauderdale, FL, January 31, 2011 -- RESOLVE Marine Group and T&T Bisso have announced their coalition for Marine Firefighting services in U.S. waters. This agreement combines both companies' extensive firefighting infrastructure to produce overlapping coverage and higher volume firefighting capacity throughout the U.S. This coalition was crafted specifically to help tank vessel operators fully comply with the new Oil Pollution Act of 1990 regulations that will be effective on February 22, 2011.
The regulations require that all tanker and tank barge owners operating in U.S. waters update their existing USCG-approved Vessel Response Plan (VRP) with a Salvage and Marine Firefighting (SMFF) plan. Tank vessel owners must certify they have pre-contracted firefighting services, equipment, and trained response personnel. During the past three years, both RESOLVE and T&T Bisso developed comprehensive in-house firefighting response systems which include newly purchased, custom-built equipment and networks of trained maritime firefighters to meet any vessel response needs.

Fort Lauderdale, FL, December 6, 2010 – RESOLVE Marine Group, the U.S.-based marine salvage and firefighting company, announced today that the RESOLVE Pioneer, has been stationed in Key West, Florida, USA. The Resolve Pioneer AHTS, a multi-service vessel with ice class hull and 80-ton bollard pull, is stationed in Key West for an indefinite period -- for emergency response and salvage standby for tanker and other commercial vessel casualties in the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean and the U.S. east coast. The Pioneer had recently been deployed to support skimming operations throughout the Gulf of Mexico (GOM), arriving shortly after the Deepwater Horizon rig explosion to lend assistance with the firefighting effort. After the rig sank, the Pioneer was outfitted and engaged in offshore skimming operations throughout the Gulf from April until the fall of 2010. RESOLVE Marine Group managed a fleet of 120 vessels during the GOM clean-up operations.
Since demobilization in the Gulf, the Pioneer was fitted out for enhanced fire-fighting capabilities to satisfy FiFi-1 requirements. Two specially designed through-hull suction wells were installed to support the vessel’s on-deck firefighting equipment. The unique 16” diameter well design delivers proper flow to the vessel’s fire pumps even while underway or operating in a seaway, something difficult to achieve with typical, temporary “hose over the side” installations. The wells provide each of the vessel’s 14” fire pumps with over 5,200 GPM of flow.
The Pioneer is standing ready in Key West to respond to any commercial tanker, container, or bulk cargo vessel or cruise ship that might have an emergency such as a grounding, oil spill, shipboard explosion or fire, or otherwise threaten the sensitive Keys, Caribbean, Gulf or Atlantic marine ecosystems. It is unusual for a salvage company to pre-position a vessel like the Resolve Pioneer for “dedicated salvage” standby, with no other service retainers or assignments. The strategic positioning of the Pioneer in Key West is part of RESOLVE’s commitment to provide salvage and marine firefighting coverage in all U.S. waters. The Pioneer is just one of the RESOLVE fleet of emergency response vessels that are standing by for rapid deployment in the event of maritime casualties in U.S. waters.

MIAMI- A concerted response by technical experts from US Coast Guard (USCG), New York City Fire Department (FDNY) and Resolve Salvage & Fire (Americas), Inc. averted the risk of a toxic material release from a chemical carrier anchored in Gravesend Bay near Brooklyn last week.The 135 -meter chemical parcel tanker Sichem Defiance experienced a cargo tank rupture while loading ethanol at Gravesend Bay anchorage in New York Harbor, creating a volatile situation involving highly flammable cargo. The rupture involved significant structural damage to the deck and cargo tank boundaries as well as ethanol transfer into numerous ballast tanks that were not designed to contain flammable cargo. The breached deck also enabled flow of ethanol vapors onto the deck of the tanker, creating a very hazardous and flammable environment, with a high risk of explosion.RESOLVE managed the sensitive operation by first conducting temporary repairs to seal the deck openings and control the flow of vapors from the affected tanks. A plan was then developed to transfer cargo away from affected/damaged tanks in order to gain access to the damage for thorough inspection. This included internal transfers using the ship's pumps as well as over the top transfers of ethanol using RESOLVE’s portable hydraulic chemical transfer pumps. RESOLVE assisted in engineering the detailed transfer sequence to minimize hull stresses in way of the damaged section. Throughout the job, RESOLVE staff conducted continuous air monitoring throughout the vessel and maintained firefighting equipment at the ready, in coordination with the New York Fire Department.

The USCG OPA-90 regulations finalized requirements for salvage and marine fighting response (SMFF) on December 31, 2008. February 22, 2011 is the deadline for most Vessel Response Plans to include a SMFF section with a named and contracted primary responder. The USCG issued further guidance on this implementation September 27th with NVIC 2-10. RESOLVE completed a thorough review of NVIC 2-10 and adapted their response posture to better serve any plan holders contracting with RESOLVE.

On January 23rd, an emergency response team from Resolve Salvage and Fire (Americas), Inc. responded to a call from an OPA 90-client after a crude oil tanker collided with a barge at Port Arthur in the Sabine-Neches Waterway. The barge had penetrated two of the tanker's forward cargo tanks. Locked together and grounded across the narrow channel, the casualty vessels blocked supply shipments to local refineries. Several nearby communities had begun evacuation.
500,000 bbl capacity oil tanker transiting inbound in the ship channel at Port Arthur, Texas loaded with crude oil had a steering failure and collided with an inland tank barge and came to rest aground and sideways in the channel with the bow of the barge stuck in the bow of the ship. The damaged breached the No. 1 S cargo tank and approx. 10,000 bbl of crude oil was spilled from the tank. The crude oil had a high hydrogen sulfide content (a very lethal gas) and resulted in the evacuation of surrounding communities. The hydrogen sulfide gas created a very hazardous environment for working on and near the ship.
Developed immediate plan for fire suppression and fire standby including high capacity bulk foam capability and 24 hr standby with fire teams. Stabilized the vessel in place using 4 tugs - ship and barge separated during a shift in current and were thus stabilized separately. Developed salvage plan to include lightering of cargo from through the side damage and from the wing ballast tank to drop the level of crude well below the damage to enable a safe transit condition out of the ship channel. Brought lightering barge alongside and commenced lightering operation - all salvage crew in protective air breathing apparatus and fire suits. Utilized high flow fire monitors for hydraulic ventilation to direct hydrogen sulfide vapors away from area during operations.
After lightering plan, developed transit plan and shifted the vessel to safe anchorage at Sun Terminal. Engineered offload sequence to minimize hull stressed in way of damage. Continued to provide FF standby and supported operation to remove hazardous cargo from all ballast tanks and clean tanks and prepare ship for transit to shipyard.

PORT EVERGLADES, FL - On December 18th Resolve Marine undertook a search to recover an anchor and over 1,000 feet of chain lost by C.V. Cap Mondego in the Port Everglades Anchorage two miles off the Fort Lauderdale beaches.
Using side scan sonar and magnetometer technologies and starting from coordinates provided by the ship, Resolve's search pattern ultimately covered approximately two square miles in waters 550 ft. deep. The electronic survey revealed several substantial anomalies in the vicinity of the point where the anchor was reportedly lost.
Based on the survey's findings, salvage tug Resolve Pioneer was outfitted with a large anchor hawk and grappling gear sized for the lost anchor and chain, an estimated weight of almost 60 tons. The tug started the physical search on January 2nd. After two days searching the area and raising several large masses of wire rigging, the tug raised a long length of heavy chain to the surface. A dive survey verified that the object hooked was indeed part of an anchor rode. Using the tug's shark jaws and main tow winch, 12 shots of chain and a ship's bow anchor were raised to the work deck. Salvage crews from international salvage company Resolve Marine Group, Inc. have begun recovery work this week on the iron ore carrying vessel ‘Black Rose’ which sank last month in the Bay of Bengal, India.Resolve’s team was awarded the tender by the Paradip Port Trust and will be pumping some 925 tonnes of fuel oil and 50 tonnes of diesel oil, as reported by officials, from the stricken ship which sank with the loss of one life 5km off the Paradip coastline on September 9th. The accident spot is close to the Gahirmatha marine sanctuary, one of the world’s few remaining nesting sites for the endangered Olive Ridley sea turtles.
The Mongolian flagged vessel was carrying about 25,000 tonnes of iron ore fines as well as 975 tonnes of fuel oil & diesel oil, which is believed to be secure within a double bottom tank.
Resolve has dispatched a team of seven personnel to complete the task and will utilize local dive resources when possible. The team arrived last week and is already well underway as of this week. This team consists of a select group of salvage masters, engineers, and commercial divers who were chosen for their familiarity with this environmentally delicate project.
Furthermore, due to the environmentally sensitive nature of this project, the proximity to the nature preserve, and the highly flammable contents being removed, Resolve is doing everything in its power to assure that proper precautions are taken. The most environmentally friendly & proven techniques are being utilized and the pollutants will be removed in the most expeditious timeframe possible.
Resolve anticipates that the project will last approximately four to six weeks baring any unforeseen setbacks. Currently, the only variable Resolve can foresee as an issue is the weather in the area. There is a small window of relatively calm weather in which Resolve plans to complete this project. If there are any variations from the current forecasts or projections, Resolve will work diligently to assure its completion date is minimally altered.
Resolve’s project scope entails the removal of the fuel oil and diesel oil from the vessels tanks only. The capsized condition of the vessel and the remaining 25,000 tonnes of iron ore prevent the vessel from being refloated and will be treated as a wreck removal. The wreck removal will be a separate project that Resolve hopes to be tasked with given their familiarity with this project thus far.
Paradip Port Trust authorities chose Resolve to carry out this work because of the company’s “vast experience in salvaging fuel from sunken ships,” according to PPT chairman Mr. Raghuramiah.

The West Coast training season included training the U.S. Navy Submariners in Bangor, WA, the U.S. Marine Corp at Camp Pendleton, and numerous fire departments throughout the Western states.
The "mobile training unit" is being delivered to the U.S. East Coast to commence HazMat training for the Cruise Ship Industry during the winter months at the Florida ports.
Along with the South Florida Cruise Ship market, the ART Unit will also serve as an important training tool along the Eastern Seaboard.

Resolve Marine Group successfully transported a large Azipod in the Bahamas for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. The Azipod, which is a marine propulsion unit consisting of electrically driven propellers mounted on a steerable pod, weighs approximately 180 Tons. It was transported via Resolve's RMG 400 crane barge, which had to undergo ballasting and counter-weighting to ensure the safety of the project.
Leading the efforts for Resolve was Project Manager Troy Caras, Crane Operator Matthew Gaspard, barge crewmen Wes Woessner, Pedro Gonzales, Desmond Newman, and Michael Bailey and boat captain Kim Thompson.

December 18th, 2008 - South Padre Island, TX
A Resolve Marine Group team has successfully removed the remains of a fishing vessel in South Padre Island, TX.
The vessel was forced onto the end of the south jetty at the south end of South Padre Island on November 23rd, 2008 during rough seas. Due to the continued exposure to large waves on the vessel, the hull eventually gave way and the vessel was broken in two.

On November 11th, 2005 a double-hulled tank barge struck underwater debris which gouged a 35 x 6 hole in the vessels starboard bow, puncturing both hulls and damaging the number one cargo tank. The vessel was carrying approximately 5 million gallons of #6 fuel oil when it capsized approximately 30 miles offshore.Resolve was called upon to provide a detailed salvage plan as well as all resources and expertise required to lighter the cargo and bring the hull safely afloat and deliver it to safe harbor. Resolve has built its reputation by taking on this type of unique project and was thus the most qualified emergency salvage contractor to tackle this job.
The Resolve Team of Salvage Masters, Divers and Technicians provided a heavy weather mooring plan, dive surveys, damage control, systems design and installation, dewatering, selective ballasting, contaminated ballast control, refloating, debris recovery, pollution control and safe towing of the vessel to port while minimizing the risk of any further oil leakage or pollution. Resolve's ongoing project is now a step closer to completion after the SEAWITCH was successfully moved from her dockage at the old Kurt Iron and Metal Factory to the graving dock at Sparrow's Point.

Resolve Marine Group, Inc. was activated on November 20, 2008 to send a Salvage Team to Costa Rica to make a fuel transfer and refloat the stranded dredge. The vessel broke free of its anchorage during rough weather that saw swells reach 5 meters.

Resolve's team continues to battle rough seas that have made the project difficult at times. Dive surveys and defueling operations are underway and the team is testing all of the vessels compartments by dewatering and/or inducing air into them.
The salvage team is led by Salvage Masters Frank Leckey and Rich Habib, Salvage Officer Ray Fortin, Project Coordinators Eric Shelley and Clay Backus, and Divers Mike Carista, Andrew White, and Bill Rittenhouse.

Resolve Marine Group, Inc. was called upon to respond to two grounded barges in Montserrat at the foot of an active volcano.
The barges were being towed via tug when the effects of Hurricane Omar caused them to break away and run aground.

One of the barges was refloated within a few days of the hurricane and taken to anchorage, while the other remained high and dry, approximately 60 feet from the shoreline until Resolve's team could assess the situation and refloat it.

This grounded 230' tank barge was carrying approximately 30 tons of heavy fuel residuals and was resting at the foot of the active volcano making its location difficult to access. The volcano was last active as recent as August of 2008, prompting Resolve to have vessels on standby in the event of an eruption.

Using "roller bladders", which were placed underneath the barge and a tug which pulled the barge off of the beach, the barge was successfully refloated and taken to anchorage on November 6th, 2008.

Resolve's Response team was led by Senior Salvage Master Frank Leckey, Salvage Techs Clay Backus, Beau Hartwick, and Salvage Divers Wes Woessner and Michael Carista.
Less than one month later, on November 28th, the volcano erupted again with a pyroclastic explosion that sent ash 40,000 ft into the air and decimated the area where our salvage team was working.

Mobile, AL- November 20th, 2008
Resolve Marine Group recently completed a heavy lift project in Mobile, AL. The load-out entailed loading and securing 10 side-loading warping tugs for the Navy that weighed approximately 100 Tons each.
